Instagram has begun developing its Twitter-like, text-focused app. A social media influencer has shared the first images of the project.
Meta has been working on a Twitter-like text-based platform on Instagram for a while. This platform, which aims to be decentralized, will in fact be a transformed version of Instagram. Recently, new details have emerged about what the app will look like and when it will be launched.
Twitter-like Instagram App Could Launch in June
According to a new report prepared by social media influencer Lia Haberman, Meta has made significant progress in developing its Twitter competitor app. It is referred to in the project as “Instagram’s new text-based app for chats”.
The app does not yet have a different name from Instagram, but is referred to by the project names “P92” or “Barcelona“. In fact, it is expected to operate entirely in connection with Instagram. It will integrate with users’ existing Instagram accounts and will not require a separate account.
Accordingly, basic profile elements such as Instagram follower count, username, biography, and verification badge will also be included in the Twitter-like app. Looking at the leaked design images, we can say it has a design similar to Instagram, but it will have a text-focused feed.
Instagram’s new app will also support users adding links, photos, and videos. Unlike Twitter, it will be possible to write 500 characters in posts. The app will leave many settings to the user, unlike Instagram.
The initial tests of the app competing with Twitter could start in June. However, Instagram’s parent company Meta has not yet made a statement about these rumors.
